I am a 42 year old gator who occasionally gets away from the farm with the vintage Airstream trailer. Living in rural Canada in a farm setting, where we get severe and snowy winter and squalls, I feel qualified to give you advice on buying a generator for your home or for camping or other outdoor uses. Getting water from the well for the animals was a priority for us in times of extreme weather, storms and power outages, as well as keeping our meat freezers from thawing and spoiling all our food.
I know, for those without a wood stove, having a way to heat and light your home is the biggest priority. Having water to flush the toilet is even more important with a large family. So these are the reasons why to get a standby generator hooked up, but there are also those nice to have features like, automatic start and stop when power resumes – not going out every few hours, switching the genny off and seeing if the lights stay on in the house.
Having a near silent, or quiet generator will keep the neighbours sweet in town, or at the RV campsite. A push start generator is still even better than a pull start engine, especially when it is cold windy and storming and you want to get back in the house. And a wheel kit on a portable generation unit will save your back.
As well as reviews of newly released an popular generators, I will be writing articles on how to use and get the most from a new generator if you have never had one before. So welcome to the site and check out our main generator reviews page.
